Dear Parents,
I hope this message finds you well. We want to inform you that we will be conducting a lockdown drill at school sometime this week as part of our ongoing safety procedures.
Please note that Pre-K and Kindergarten students will not be participating in this drill. We will ensure that these young learners remain in a safe and secure environment during this time. Thank you for your understanding and support as we work to keep our school environment safe.
Happy Labor Day from WCPS! We hope all of our students, staff and families have been enjoying this long weekend! We will see you back on Tuesday.
If you need additional food on the weekends, sign up for the backpack program. The backpack program provides a bag of food to participating students on Friday of every week. It is supported by local churches and individuals in our community!
If your child would benefit from receiving one of the food bags, please complete the form that went home with your student last week and return it to school. If you are in need of another form, you can contact the school.
Thank you!
Dunk Your Superintendent! If you don’t like the idea of a new cell phone policy or think school starts too early in August, now is your chance to take out your start of school frustrations, and dunk Dr. Perrigan! He’ll be in the dunk tank at Dairy Queen in Abingdon (Exit 19 location) on Saturday, with the fun beginning at 4:00 p.m. Proceeds raised from the event go towards St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. WCPS students and staff have loved participating in fundraisers for St. Jude and are thrilled to be able to give back.
We will conduct a lockdown drill this week as part of our ongoing efforts to maintain a safe and secure learning environment at Rhea Valley Elementary School. This exercise aims to practice the procedures we would follow in the unlikely event of an emergency requiring us to secure the school premises. This specific drill will be for first through fifth grade only. Feel free to discuss the purpose of a lockdown drill with your student, so they may understand the significance and importance of being prepared.

As our students head back to school, please remember to use caution! Observe the speed limit in all school zones, watch for school buses and pedestrians and plan additional time to reach your destination. We appreciate your help to keep our students, teachers, staff and parents safe as we begin a new school year.
The first day of school is always filled with excitement and anticipation, and we have been working diligently to ensure a smooth and enjoyable start for all our students. Our school day is from 8:15 to 2:50. Students should already have breakfast from the cafeteria and be in their classrooms by 8:15. For safety reasons, we kindly ask that parents drop off and pick up their children at the car rider line. Please ensure that all emergency contact information is up-to-date. If there have been any changes, please inform the school office as soon as possible.
We are committed to providing a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment where every child can thrive. Our dedicated team of teachers and staff is here to support your child’s academic and social growth throughout the year.
Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or concerns. We look forward to a fantastic school year ahead!
